"Energietrends der Zukunft - Energy trends of the future" Moderated by Stephan Hungeling Guests: • Dr. Dieter Attig, chairman of the board of directors STAWAG • Dr. Christian Julius, project leader biogas team STAWAG • Klaus Meiners, Vice Chief Officer of the Environmental Agency of the City of Aachen • Dr. Peter Moser, RWE Power Focussing the rising energy costs and limited fossil resources top-class institutes of the RWTH Aachen research on prospective possibilities of power generation und energy savings. Within the Aachen Technology Entrepreneurship Conference on 7th of November 2007 there will be a discussion between industry representatives, professors and postgraduates about the energy trends of the future. Focuses of this session are cogeneration heat and power (CHP), Biomass, CO2-free coal-fired power plants and efficiency improvement of existing power plants. Stephan Hungeling Stephan Hungeling studied business administration at the MLU Halle/Wittenberg, the Leipzig Graduate School of Management (HHL), and the NMIT in Nelson/New Zealand. Afterwards he was a research associate and Ph.D. student at the Chair for Business Administration and Sciences for Engineers and Scientists at the RWTH Aachen. Stephan Hungeling gained practical experiences in different companies. In some of them he was involved directly or indirectly in the founding process. In 2005 he and his business partner Saulo Sebra won the first price at the business plan competition AC² with an idea from the field of regenerative energies. Dr. Dieter Attig After graduating in electrical engineering at the Braunschweig Technical University, Dr. Dieter Attig started out as Manager of the business administration department at the public utility company Energieversorgung Oberhausen AG. As general manager of Stadtwerke Lemgo GmbH (1977 – 1997) he was highly committed to combined heat and power generation, especially in the development of standardized combined heat and power plants; hence he became famous in the energy branch. Since 1997 Dr. Dieter Attig has been member of the board of directors at STAWAG, in 2000 he became chairman of the board. He was co-founder of Trianel European Energy Trading GmbH, a successful European electricity and gas trading corporation for municipal companies as well as of the municipal distribution company Trianel Energie GmbH. Thus he strongly supported competition in the power industry. Dr. Christian Julius After graduating in agricultural science at the University of Bonn, Dr. Christian Julius performed his career entry in the field of bio-energy at the Agency of Renewable Resources in Gülzow. During his following activity at the Research Association for Agricultural Politics and Sociology, he earned a doctorate in the subject area of agricultural economy. Since 2005, Dr. Julius is part of the STAWAG biogas team with the main task of resource management. Since 2007, he is accountable as a project leader for the development and the profitability analysis of new locations for biogas production and biogas feed-in. Klaus Meiners Klaus Meiners (Dipl. Ing.) worked after his studies of Municipal and Regional Planning at Dortmund University initially for the "Kommunale Technologieberatung, Oberhausen" (Municipal Technology Consulting, Oberhausen) being among others responsible in the design of methods concerning the economic assessment of energy strategies. After job change to the city of Aachen (1991) he became in charge of the newly implemented field "Energy and Climate Protection". Based on his engagements important projects were realized, e.g. introduction of the Aachen Model for facilitation of solar and wind energy (1994), planning and construction of the Wind Farm Aachen Vetschau (1996) and the project Solar Housing Laurensberg (2000). The Aachen Model had to face massive resistance in the 90-ties by the power industry, nevertheless it inspired doubtlessly the German Act on Granting Priority to Renewable Energy Sources” but also similar acts in many countries of the world. It can be regarded as one of the most successful municipal environmental initiatives of the 90-ties. Since 1997 Klaus Meiners is head of the department "Pollution and Energy", in 2002 he was appointed Vice Chief Officer of the Environmental Agency of the City of Aachen. Dr. Peter Moser Peter Moser, born 1967, studied chemistry at the university of Cologne (Germany), where he also received his PhD. Industry background: In 1999 Peter Moser joined the research and development department, "New Technologies", of RWE Power AG in Essen. "New Technologies" is especially engaged in post combustion capture technologies and energy storage systems. He has worked in the areas: - optimization of lignite fired power plants regarding efficiency, slagging and fouling - Energy storage technologies - Steering Committee Member of the VGB Power Tech joint research program "KOMET 650", for the development of boiler and instrumentation technology for today´s and future power plants with steam temperatures up to 650°C. He is responsible for our activities in the CCS projects: - CASTOR and CESAR (both post-combustion capture, EU-projects) - CO2SINK (CO-2 storage, EU-project) - OXYCOAL-AC (Oxyfuel-Technology, COORETEC-project) Main focus of his work currently is the CO2-scrubbing project of RWE Power. |
